Guided wandering in the old alleys

22. juni 2018

Everyday at 1PM at Martnan, you can participate in a historical wander in the old alleys, such as St. Jørgensveita and Munkhaugveita. Did you know that St. Jørgensveita is the oldest street in the city, and that in the middle ages it was the main street in town?

Historical wander in the old alleys: Participate in a wander of the historical alleys in Midtbyen, and be told stories and interesting facts from a professional guide.

The area around St. Jørgensveita used to be the old market square in Trondheim. Only the people of a lower range in society would wander the alleys, and not the main roads and streets.

In the central city area (Midtbyen) you will find about 30 old alleys which dates from the Middle Ages. The word «Veit» (Norwegian word for alley) actually means «ditch», as in the ditch on the side of the road.

The wandering will be guided in Norwegian, but can also be done in English. The wandering will endure roughly 30 minutes, and guiding the tour is authorized guide of Trondheim, Siri K. Forsnes from Visit Trondheim.

Time: 1:00 PM – 1:30 PM (June 26th, 27th and 28th)

Where: Gather behind Vår Frue Kirke (Our Lady Church)

$$$: Free

Munkhaugveita: One of the 30 old alleys in the city is Munkhaugveita. How it came to be named exactly this, you´ll learn in the guided tour.
